Surveying Services for Period and Historic Properties

Pure ‘Surveying’ is the technique, profession and science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them, commonly practiced by professional surveyors.

As a Chartered Building Surveyor we take this aspect one step further by specialising in the design, construction and management of buildings. By considering these aspects as a science and appreciating how they have evolved over the many generations, we gain a great insight as to how buildings in the past were built and why they were constructed in the manner they were. This can be beneficial in caring for them as intended and in the design and construction of future buildings. For example a building built as a breathable building should continue for its longevity.

In the conservation of historic properties we care for it in its present form, without creating false history. If it does not need to be repaired then it does not need to be fixed. However we will always see how the latest technologies and energy surveying devices can be incorporated to ensure that the building has a future at a cost effective price. We take every advantage of the original structure to make it work for you.

With large, older, rundown or historical properties, we often find ourselves working in areas that other professionals might avoid. We can offer our clients a comprehensive structural report that includes defects, repair and maintenance options to every aspect and element of the building. From this we can develop a Conservation Management Plan for the long term benefit of the building, its occupants and the surrounding environment.

We always look to conserve the history of a building for the benefit of future generations, endeavouring to ensure that any modifications in our lifetime can be reversed if required, but accepting that all buildings and their uses evolve.
